SUPPORT START and the UH CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY PROGRAM

There are only 9 doctoral clinical psychology programs in the entire state of Texas. All of them are at universities except UT Southwestern in Dallas, which is in a medical school. The clinical psychology program at the University of Houston is the only program in Houston.

Since 1959, UH’s clinical psychology program has been accredited consecutively by the American Psychological Association (APA) for the education of doctoral clinical psychologists. The program has been ranked #1 in the state of Texas in many recent years and is in the top 15% of clinical doctoral training programs in the U.S. based upon professional licensing scores for its graduates.

By supporting START you are giving a vote of confidence to Houston’s only Tier One public research university. The behavioral health program will flourish in the newly constructed Health and Biomedical Sciences Bldg II, and the successful launch of the START will allow the children, adolescents, and adults who are at risk for, or suffering from stress, trauma, and anxiety full access to this established comprehensive assessment and treatment program.

The Clinical Psychology program at UH, along with several programs across the campus, will have a new behavioral health home in the next newly rising building adjacent to the current Health and Biomedical Science Building. In line with the changing needs of our healthcare delivery environment, it is imperative that we proactively respond to the challenges in mental health care and adopt an integrative behavioral health approach that the best person-centered care available.
