As a health and social psychologist, Dr. Lu's goal is to understand biological, psychosocial, and cultural factors that may influence the origin, development, and consequences of diseases and to develop social and behavioral interventions, particularly for vulnerable populations. Dr. Lu has developed several intertwined lines of research:

• Developing culturally competent psychosocial interventions for Asian Americans cancer survivors
• Cancer survivorship issues among childhood cancer
• Cancer survivorship issues among Chinese breast cancer survivors

• Biopsychosocial model of pain
• Culture, ethnic and gender differences in pain

• Health benefits of expressive writing and emotional disclosure
• Emotion suppression
• Cognitive reappraisal and posttraumatic growth
• Stress and coping
• Social support

• Applying advanced quantitative methods (i.e., multivariate and multilevel modeling) in these areas above
• Qualitative methods
