UH’s first interdisciplinary building will feature Psychology
UH has committed to construction of a multi-story, 136,450 GSF building that will house multiple components from Psychology, namely our Neuroscience and Neuropsychology program faculty labs, two interdisciplinary institutes that involve faculty in Psychology, the Texas Institute for Measurement, Evaluation, and Statistics (TIMES) and the Texas Learning and Computation Center (TLC2).
The proposed Health and Biomedical Sciences Center Building (HBSCB) will provide two floors of interdisciplinary research space dedicated to complex systems research involving quantitative psychology, neuroscience, neuropsychology, human behavioral genetics, computer science, biology and biochemistry, neuro- and biomedical engineering, pharmacy, and optometry, along with two additional floors of animal vivarium space including wet labs, an animal behavior core facility, and a transgenic mouse facility. The building will also house the Vision Institute with an ambulatory surgical center, a laser center, and academic spaces for classrooms and students, food service space, and an atrium that will link to the existing J.Davis Armistead Building, home to the College of Optometry.
Large gifts or planned giving bequests are invested to yield annual income, that is used to support designated programs of the Psychology Department. The endowment is maintained in perpetuity and grows over time, and can provide a source of long-term annual operating support for advancement of the departments goals, including distinguished professorships, student scholarships and specific program support. The endowment allows the gift to have a permanent impact.
