MCGAUGHRAN FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Factors that may be considered in the nomination process for the McGaughran Family Scholarship

The faculty of the clinical psychology graduate program has the primary responsibility for the nomination and selection of individuals for this scholarship. Typically the criteria utilized for these decisions focus on the prior educational attainment of the applicant, demonstrated interest in and preparation for the course of study, and evidence of the applicant’s ability to successfully matriculate in the program. LYNN REHM GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP

Factors that may be considered in the nomination process for the Lynn Rehm Graduate Scholarship

PAT AVERILL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

DAN SHEER SCHOLARSHIP

The faculty of the clinical neuropsychology concentration of the clinical psychology graduate program has the primary responsibility for the nomination and selection of candidates for this scholarship. Typically the criteria utilized for these decisions focus on the prior educational attainment of the applicant, demonstrated interest in and preparation for the course of study, and evidence of the applicant’s ability to successfully matriculate in the program. JAMES LESLIE MCCARY SCHOLARSHIP

DR. GAYLE M. RETTIG ENDOWED GRADUATE FELLOWSHIP FOR NEUROPSYCHOLOGY

The faculty of the Clinical Neuropsychology program has the primary responsibility for the nomination of individuals for this Graduate Fellowship. The fellowship funding is to be used by the Department of Psychology for the purpose of recruiting and retaining the best graduate student(s) who will be studying for a Ph.D. degree in Neuropsychology or a related area of concentration with a focus on brain and behavior. The recipient(s) should meet the merit requirement determined by the department scholarship committee. The recipient(s) will be determined by a scholarship selection committee in the Departmentt of Psychology in conjunction with the Chair of the Department.This list of criteria is not exhaustive and programs are urged to utilize multiple relevant factors in making nomination decisions. Factors that may be considered during the nomination process are:

  • An applicant’s academic record as an undergraduate student;
  • An applicant’s record of involvement in research activities;
  • The applicant’s responsibilities while attending school as an undergraduate student, Including whether the applicant was employed, whether the applicant helped to raise children, and other similar factors;
  • The applicant’s involvement in clinical and community activities;
  • The applicant’s personal statement;
  • The applicant’s personal interview.
  • For this scholarship, recipients must be studying for a Ph.D. degree in Neuropsychology or a related area of concentration with a focus on brain and behavior.
  • May be a continuing or incoming student.

GORDON L. PAUL MEMORIAL FELLOWSHIP FOR CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY

Factors that may be considered in the nomination process for the Gordon L. Paul Memorial Fellowship for Clinical Psychology

The Faculty of the Clinical Psychology program has the primary responsibility for the nomination of individuals for this fellowship. The fellowship selection committee consists of 3 or more tenured or tenure-track faculty members appointed by the Director of Clinical Training of the Clinical Psychology Program. The recipient(s) of the fellowship will be determined by the Fellowship Selection Committee.

The criteria include:

  • Fellowship applicant must be a current student in good standing in the Clinical Psychology Program at the University of Houston.
  • Fellowship award is based on academic merit and/or research potential as determined by the Fellowship Selection Committee.
  • Fellowship award is for one academic year and is non-renewable.
  • Fellowship recipient may accept other scholarships and grants in conjunction with the Gordon L. Paul Memorial Fellowship.
  • Funds can be used to cover expenses for tuition, books, fees, living expenses, research needs, and /or supplies for the academic semester. Any expenses of a recipient in excess of the amount deposited must be borne by the student.

FOR DEVELOPMENTAL COGNITIVE & NEUROSCIENCE PROGRAM:

ANH LAC TRAN SCHOLARSHIP IN NEUROSCIENCE

Factors that may be considered in the nomination process for the Anh Lac Tran Scholarship in Neuroscience

In conjunction with the chair of the department, the DCN director or one faculty appointed by the chair will form a Scholarship Committee made up of interdisciplinary neuroscience faculty. Typically the criteria utilized for these decisions focus on the prior educational attainment of the applicant, demonstrated interest in and preparation for the course of study, and evidence of the applicant’s ability to successfully matriculate in the program. This list is not exhaustive and programs are urged to utilize multiple relevant factors in making nomination decisions. Factors that may be considered during the nomination process are:

  • Scholarship applicant exhibits leadership qualities as determined by the Psychology Department Graduate Education Committee.
  • The Psychology Department Graduate Education Committee will solicit eligible candidates from the interdisciplinary neuroscience program to apply.
  • Scholarship applicant should demonstrate an interest in research in neuroscience directed towards brain function.
  • Scholarship applicant must be a certified full-time graduate degree-seeking student in good standing at the University of Houston.
  • Priority given to applicants actively studying sensory and cognitive neuroscience, and especially those using non-invasive methods with potential clinical applications.
  • Scholarship recipient must maintain a GPA in accordance with the standards set by the Psychology Department Graduate Education Committee.
  • Scholarship recipient may accept other scholarships and grants in conjunction with the Anh Lac Tran Scholarship.
  • Funds can be used to cover expenses for tuition, books, fees, and/or supplies for the coming academic semester. Any expenses of a recipient in excess of the amount deposited must be borne by the student.

FOR I/O PSYCHOLOGY PROGRAM:

OSBURN SCHOLARSHIP

Factors that may be considered in the nomination process for the Osburn Scholarship

The faculty of the industrial-organizational psychology graduate program has the primary responsibility for the nomination and selection of candidates for this scholarship. Typically the criteria utilized for these decisions focus on the prior educational attainment of the applicant, demonstrated interest in and preparation for the course of study, and evidence of the applicant’s ability to successfully matriculate in the program. This list is not exhaustive and programs are urged to utilize multiple relevant factors in making nomination decisions. Factors that may be considered during the nomination process are:

  • An applicant’s academic record as an undergraduate student;
  • An applicant’s record of involvement in research activities;

The faculty of the industrial-organizational psychology graduate program has the primary responsibility for the nomination of individuals for this fellowship and the UH Vice President for Graduate and Professional Studies has the responsibility of the selection of candidates. Typically the criteria utilized for these decisions focus on the prior educational attainment of the applicant, demonstrated interest in and preparation for the course of study, and evidence of the applicant’s ability to successfully matriculate in the program. This list is not exhaustive and programs are urged to utilize multiple relevant factors in making nomination decisions. Factors that may be considered during the nomination process are:

The faculty of the individual graduate programs has the primary responsibility for the nomination of individuals for this scholarship and the Graduate Education Committee has the responsibility of the selection of candidates. MONT H. JR. and JANE GOLDSTON GRADUATE FELLOWSHIP

Factors that may be considered in the nomination process for the Mont H. Jr. and Jane Goldston Graduate Fellowship

The faculty of the individual graduate programs has the primary responsibility for the selection of candidates for the nomination of individuals for the fellowships. Typically the criteria utilized for these decisions focus on the prior educational attainment of the applicant, demonstrated interest in and preparation for the course of study, and evidence of the applicant’s ability to successfully matriculate in the program.   • Fellowship prospect exhibits leadership qualities as determined by the selection committee in the Department of Psychology;
  • Fellowship applicant should demonstrate an interest in pursuing a career in Psychology;
  • Fellowship applicant must be a certified full-time graduate certificate student in good standing at the University of Houston;
  • Fellowship recipient must maintain a GPA in accordance with the standards set by the selection committee in the Department of Psychology;
