Training

The mission of the Clinical Child Psychology Concentration (CCP) is to develop leaders in the area of clinical child psychology who are actively involved in generating, applying, and disseminating scientific findings related to the psychosocial development; behavioral, affective and physical health; and evidence-based treatment of children and families. All students become well versed in developmental psychopathology and research methodology through a combination of formal coursework, experiential training, and research. Concentrated study is available in the areas of depression and anxiety, externalizing disorders, personality development and disorder, emotion regulation, social cognition, family relationships, domestic violence, forensic psychology and sleep/wake processes. Faculty members and, by extension, students, participate in ongoing research collaborations with faculty at surrounding institutions including Texas Children’s Hospital, The Menninger Clinic, and the Harris County Psychiatric Center - University of Texas. As future clinical scientists, students are expected to maintain active involvement in scientific research. Thus, the CCP concentration would not be an optimal training environment for prospective students who are primarily interested in clinical practice careers.
