UH Organist Daryl Robinson wins First Prize and Audience Prize in National Competition

On July 1, 2012, Daryl Robinson won First Prize and the Audience Prize in the National Young Artists Competition in Organ Performance (NYACOP) sponsored by the American Guild of Organists. He completed his Bachelor of Music Degree under Dr. Robert Bates at the Moores School of Music in 2011 and continued coaching with Dr. Bates during the preparation for the competition. Daryl has also studied with David Higgs, Matthew Dirst, and Joby Bell. In 2009, he won First Prize in the William C. Hall Organ Competition while studying at UH. He was awarded a scholarship to the 2007 Summer Institute for French Organ Studies. While a student at UH, he served as collaborative keyboard artist for the Moores School Concert Chorale and Texas Music Festival. Recent professional engagements include performances with the Houston Chamber Choir, the Houston Symphony, and Mercury Baroque Houston. He currently serves as Music Associate/Organist for Grace Presbyterian Church in Houston.

UH Organists Progress to the Semifinal Round of National Competition

Daryl Robinson (BM 2011) and HyeHyun Sung (current doctoral student) have been chosen to compete against five other young organists from around the country in the semifinal round of the nation's most prestigious organ competition, the American Guild of Organists' National Young Artists Competition in Organ Performance.  The semifinal round will be held at the Cleveland Museum of Art in Cleveland, Ohio, on Friday, May 25, 2012.  Congratulations to HyeHyun and Daryl, and good luck in the next round!
