El Paso Corporation Lecture Series

El Paso Corporation

Since 1986, the El Paso Corporation Lecture Series (formerly the Tenneco Lecture Series) has brought national and world-renown scholars, artists and policy makers to the University of Houston. In that time, the Lecture Series has sponsored more than 250 events across the UH campus, creating a unique opportunity for students, faculty, staff and the community to hear first-hand accounts from influential leaders.

Past speakers include former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Henry Cisneros, civil rights activist Dr. Cornel West, and Nobel Peace Laureate Rigoberta Menchu Tum. The lecture series has also sponsored several symposia on issues as wide-ranging as NAFTA and North American Urban Development; American Energy Policy in the 1970s; and Dumps, Landfills and the Neighborhood.

All lectures are open to the public and events are held throughout the academic year—and sometimes during the summer months.
