About Dr. Frisch
Michael Frisch is Professor of History & American Studies/ Senior Research Scholar at the University at Buffalo, SUNY. He is an American social and urban historian involved for many years in oral and public history projects, often in collaboration with community history organizations, museums, and documentary filmmakers.
Frisch is the author of A Shared Authority: Essays on the Craft and Meaning of Oral and Public History (1990) and the prizewinning Portraits in Steel (1993), in collaboration with noted documentary photographer Milton Rogovin. He has served as editor of the Oral History Review (1986-1996), as President of the American Studies Association (2000-2001), and as President of the Oral History Association (2009-2010).
His work in oral history applications of new media technology has been developed through The Randforce Associates, LLC, in the University at Buffalo’s Technology Incubator. His applied practice has led to a series of major publications, most recently (co-authored with Douglas Lambert) “Digital Curation through Information Cartography: A Commentary on Oral History in the Digital Age from a Content Management Point of View.” Oral History Review, 40/1, 135-153.
