Moores Concert Chorale wins awards in France

Choir makes it French debut and wows international audiences

The Moores School of Music Concert Chorale traveled to Tours, France at the end of May to compete in the highly-selective Florilege Vocal de Tours international chorale competition. It competed against nine choirs, including ensembles from Tokyo; Calgary, Canada and Dublin, Ireland.

Mike Emery, a UH media relations representative, journeyed overseas with thec chorale and its director Betsy Weber. He produced daily stories about the experience for Creative Pride, a blog that features UH-connected artist profiles on the Houston Chronicle’s electronic edition, chron.com.

The chorale earned a second place prize in the Mixed Choir category, an honor the choir shared with The Spiritus Chamber Choir from Calgary, Canada. It also garnered an award in the Best New Creation category for its rendition of David Ashley White’s “I Cannot Live with You.” White, a world-renown American classical composer, is the director of the Moores School of Music.
