Placement Audition Requirements

Requirements

  • PLEASE NOTE: Orchestra seating placement will be decided through brief auditions when you arrive. Auditions for viola, cello, double bass, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn, and percussion will take place on Saturday, May 30, 2015, starting at 10 a.m.  There are no placement auditions for trombone, tuba, and harp – part assignments will be made by TMF’s Music Director, Franz Krager, in consultation with instrumental faculty.
  • Each instrument requires specific excerpts and solos, including Piccolo, English horn, E-flat and Bass clarinet, and contrabassoon
  • Violin placement auditions will take place on Sunday, May 31, beginning at 9 a.m. in MSM Room 205.  Trumpet placement auditions will take place on Sunday, May 31 at 4 p.m. in Room 335.
  • Concertmaster auditions: Any violinists who are interested in being considered for Concertmaster for TMF this summer must submit a video of all the Heldenleben solos on YouTube and email link to tmf@uh.edu by Friday, May 1. All violins were recently emailed a pdf of the solos. Applicants will be notified of the audition results by Friday, May 8, 2015. Any violinist not auditioning for Concertmaster must prepare the entire Heldenleben part (minus the solos) for the placement audition on Sunday, May 31.  Concertmaster assignments for the remainder of the TMF 2015 season may also be determined by the violin placement auditions. Final determinations will be made by TMF faculty and the Music Director.
