Lynn Lamkin holds Bachelor of Music Education and Master of Music in Vocal Performance degrees from Emporia State University, and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the Eastman School of Music. As a career music educator, she began teaching in the Kansas City, KS public schools. Active as a singer and choral director, she was on the faculties of the University of North Alabama, Lee College, San Jacinto College, and the College of the Mainland. She was an affiliate artist in voice at the Moores School of Music before becoming its Associate Director in 2001.
Lamkin was recipient of an Educational Opportunities Grant from the Eastman School of Music, was a finalist in the WGN and Opera America competitions, and a regional finalist in the Metropolitan Opera Auditions. She was president of the Texas Two-Year College Choral Director's Association and was appointed co-chair of the state legislative committee on the Field of Study Curriculum in Music.
An active church musician, Lamkin held positions at St. Thomas the Apostle Episcopal Church-Nassau Bay, Trinity Episcopal Church-Baytown, First Methodist Church-La Porte, and First Presbyterian Church-Baytown.
