Andrew Davis is Director of Graduate Studies in the Moores School of Music and Associate Dean of the Honors College. He is an Associate Professor of Music Theory.  As a music theorist he conducts research on nineteenth-century instrumental music and late-19th and early-20th century opera. His book Il Trittico, Turandot, and Puccini's Late Style was published in 2010 by Indiana University Press; his second book, on rhetoric and narrative in the Romantic sonata, is forthcoming.  He has published and delivered papers nationally and internationally on music of Brahms, Chopin, Puccini, Richard Strauss, Liszt, and Gershwin. He is treasurer of the Texas Society for Music Theory, president of the local chapter of the national music honor society Pi Kappa Lamda, a member of the board of directors of the Phi Beta Kappa Alumni Association of Greater Houston, and co-chair of the organizing committee charged with bringing a Phi Beta Kappa chapter to the University of Houston.  He received a University of Houston Teaching Excellence Award in 2010.

He holds the Ph.D. in music theory from Indiana University, an M.M. in music theory from the University of Massachusetts, and a B.A. in music (summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, and with a certificate in saxophone performance and a minor and honors in Geography) from the Pennsylvania State University.
