Troy

Troy is a Music Education student at the Moores School of Music. He currently studies saxophone with Dan Gelok and composition with Dr. Markus Maroney. Troy is actively involved in many ensembles including Symphonic Winds, Jazz Orchestra, The Spirit of Houston, Cougar Brass, ManCorps, Men of Moores, and Floreat. He also is an active member of Kappa Kappa Psi and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. Troy holds the following leadership positions: President of Phi Mu Alpha, Section Leader in marching band and Cougar Brass, and Section Leader in ManCorps. After his undergrad, he plans to become a high school band director in Texas for several years before potentially pursuing a Master's degree.
        

      

Dylan

Dylan is a junior music education student, studying tuba with Mark Barton. Dylan is currently a tuba section leader in the Spirit of Houston Marching band, and is the secretary of Kappa Kappa Psi, a National Honorary Band Service Fraternity. Dylan teaches at many Houston area middle, and high schools, both as a private lessons teacher, master class teacher and marching technician. In addition to music, Dylan likes to be involved with community projects, including Relay for Life, and other community organizations. Upon graduation, Dylan hopes to become a high school band director. Go COOGS! 

 

Katie

Katie is a senior music education major studying with Cynthia Clayton. She is a member of the Moores School of Music Concert Chorale and in 2011, traveled with them to Tours, France to compete in the international Florilège Vocal de Tours competition. In 2013, she traveled again with Concert Chorale to the prestigious, international choir competition in Marktoberdorf, Germany where they won first place. She is also the director of the student led, acapella ensemble named Ardore. Katie has been involved with the Moores Opera Center as both an assistant stage manager and chorus member. For this opera season, she will be performing in both Salsipuedes and the Marriage of Figaro. In addition to music, Katie is also a member of the Honors College here at the University of Houston. Upon graduation, Katie plans to pursue a career as a college-level choral conductor.    

  

Catherine

Catherine is a senior vocal performance and music education double major studying with Cynthia Clayton. She is Student Director of the Moores School of Music Concert Chorale. In 2011, she traveled to France with Concert Chorale, where they successfully competed in the international Florilège Vocal de Tours; in 2013, she traveled to Germany with Chorale where they competed in and won the Marktoberdorf International Chamber Choir Competition. Catherine has been involved with the Moores Opera Center as a chorus member, in small roles, and assistant stage manager. She will be performing in several productions this season, including an outreach production of The Magic Flute (in which she will sing The Queen of the Night). Catherine is the President of Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity, is a TierOne Scholar, and is a member of the Honors College.

  

Kevin

Kevin is a sophomore music education and performance double major at the Moores School of Music studying euphonium with Danny Vinson. He is a member of the Moores School of Music Wind Ensemble, baritone section leader in the Spirit of Houston Marching Band, plays in Cougar Brass, and an active member in Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity. He is currently a marching band technician at Morton Ranch High School in Katy ISD. Outside of music, he loves to travel, hang out with friends, and support his favorite local Houston sports teams. 

  

Blythe

Blythe Hopson in a senior Music Education major with a focus in voice. She has served as the alto section leader in the Concert Chorale, as well as a senior conductor in the mixed A cappella ensemble, Ardore. She has competed with Chorale in the Florilege Vocal du Tours in France. She was a soloist with Chorale in the Marktoberdorf International Chamber Choir competition in Germany, where they took first place. Blythe has performed in several shows with the Moores Opera Center, including Falstaff, Le Nozze di Figaro, Der Rosenkavalier, and The Magic Flute. She recently performed with Simon Carrington Chamber Singers in Kansas City, where she was a soloist in DiOrio's Ode to Purcell. Blythe is Vice President, Ritual of the International Music Fraternity, Sigma Alpha Iota.

  

Christopher

A native of La Porte, Texas, Christopher is currently a Junior that is double majoring in Music Education and Percussion Performance studying under Blake Wilkins. He is currently a member of the Moores Symphony Orchestra, the Moores School Percussion Ensemble, the PANtagonists Steel Drum Band, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, a national men's music fraternity. He was formerly a member of the Spirit of Houston Marching Band, the Symphonic Winds, and Cougar Brass. He has performed with the Moores Opera Center's productions of The Marriage of Figaro and Salsipuedes. In his free time, Chris likes to play ultimate frisbee, run, or hangout with friends.  After his undergraduate, he aspires to go to graduate school for Percussion studies.   

 

Shamsah

Shamsah is a Music Marketing major with minors in Sales and Marketing. She plays the French Horn in the Wind Ensemble and Moores School Symphony Orchestra. She has also performed with the Moores School Opera Orchestra. Shamsah has participated in performances at the Midwest Clinic in Chicago and TMEA in San Antonio. She was also a member of the Spirit of Houston marching band. In addition to these ensembles, Shamsah is a student in the Program for Excellence in Selling at the Bauer College of Business and was selected to be a part of the Sales for Social Impact class. She was also an intern with Virtuosi of Houston and Mercury: The Orchestra Redefined.  

  

Tommie

Tommie is a junior Music Education and Vocal Performance double major at the Moores School of Music and is studying voice with Dr. Timothy Jones.  He is a member of the Moores School Concert Chorale and has performed with them at the 2013 TMEA Convention, and is looking forward to performing with Mercury and Ars Lyrica with them later in the year.  He is the director of the male barbershop/a cappella group, Bob's Your Uncle and also a member of the mixed chamber group, Ardore.  He has also performed in the chorus in the Moores Opera Center's productions of Shostakovich's Moscow, Cheryomushki and Verdi's Rigoletto. This year, he is excited to sing the role of Mr. Kofner in The Consul and is in the chorus of Cold Sassy Tree.  After graduation, Tommie hopes to become a high school choir director and eventually teach private voice lessons.

  

Marty

Marty Wells is a junior Music Education and Bassoon Performance major and a member of the Honors College. He loves studying with his bassoon professor, Elise Wagner, second bassoon of the Houston Symphony Orchestra. Marty currently serves as the principal bassoon in both the University Wind Ensemble and Moores School Symphony/Chamber Orchestras. Marty also serves as an active chamber musician in many ensembles throughout the university. In his first year, he marched color guard in the Spirit of Houston Marching Band and eventually joined an independent winter-guard. He hopes to participate in several music festivals this upcoming summer. He has known that the University of Houston was the right university for him since the fourth grade and he enjoys spreading the love and joy he has for the Moores School of Music!! Brittany

BrittanyInstrument: Cello

Brittany is a junior cello performance major studying under Vagram Saradjian with elective studies in marketing. She is a member of the Moores School Symphony Orchestra and has also played in the Moore's school opera and chamber orchestras. She has held both principle and assistant principle positions of the cello section.  Brittany recently performed at the Midwest Convention in Chicago and at the TMEA convention in San Antonio with the Moores School Symphony orchestra.  This past summer she worked for the Texas Music Festival and plans to participate in the festival next summer amongst other music festivals around the nation. Outside of her cello studies, Brittany enjoys teaching a private cello lesson studio in Klein ISD and performing in various gigs around the Houston area.  She is also a member of the Honors college.        

     

Laura

Laura Lisk is a sophomore vocal performance major who studies with Cynthia Clayton. She is a member of Moores School of Music Concert Chorale and in 2013 she travelled with them to Marktoberdorf, Germany, where they won first place in the International Chamber Choir Competition. Laura also is a member of the all-female acapella group, Acabellas. Last season, she was involved with the Moores Opera Center as a chorus member, and will be a part of this season's Italian Straw Hat and Cold Sassy Tree. Laura is also a part of the Honors College.

  

Blake

Blake is a senior in the studio of Mark Barton pursuing degrees in both Music Education and Tuba Performance. He is currently the principle tubist of the University of Houston Wind Ensemble and the Moores School of Music Chamber Orchestra and is a section leader in the Spirit of Houston Cougar Marching Band. Blake also teaches private lessons in Klein, Texas. Outside of his musical activities, Blake enjoys spending time with his friends, volunteering at his church, playing and watching sports, and traveling.  

  

Jazmine

Jazmine is a sophomore Vocal Performance major studying with Melanie Sonnenberg. She is a member of the Moores School of Music Concert Chorale. In the summer of 2013, she competed with Concert Chorale in the Marktoberdorf International Chamber Choir competition, which took place in Marktoberdorf, Germany. Jazmine will be performing in several shows this season with the Moores Opera Center, including Rota's The Italian Straw Hat and Mozart's The Magic Flute. She also assisted stage managed last season's production of Cheryomuski. She sings with the women's a cappella ensemble, Acabellas, and is a member of the professional women's music fraternity, Sigma Alpha Iota.  

     

Kody

Kody is a Senior Music Education and Music Composition double major studying with Mark Barton and Rob Smith. He has taught privately in Katy and Spring ISD as a Tuba teacher. He has also given low brass masterclasses at Twin Creeks Middle School, Dueitt Middle School and Spring High School. He has performed with a number of ensembles at the Moores School of Music: playing tuba with the Symphonic Winds, the Concert Band, the contemporary ensemble EYEmusic along with various chamber groups; singing Bass/Baritone in the University Men's Chorus, University Manchoir, University ManCORPS, Floreat and Bob's Your Uncle. He has been the President of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, the international men’s music fraternity, and has done several Mill's Music Flower Missions at various hospitals through the organization. Since the summer of 2011, Kody has worked with high school students as a camp counselor at the Interlochen Summer Arts Camp. In his free time, Kody likes to hang out with friends, take road trips, read scores and eat. Upon graduation, he plans to teach band and to compose in Houston and in the future to teach at the collegiate level.  

     

Shani

A first-year graduate student, Shani is studying with Professor Joseph Evans. She hails from Sunnyvale, California, and is excited to be back in a warm, sunny part of the country! In May, Shani graduated Magna Cum Laude with honors from the University of Puget Sound, where she was a double major in music and psychology. At Puget Sound, Shani was the President of the musical theatre club Curtain Call, Vice President of the Adelphian Concert Choir, and worked as a Writing Advisor at the Center for Writing, Learning, and Teaching. On the Puget Sound stage, Shani was seen as Ruth in The Pirates of Penzance and Dame Doleful in Too Many Sopranos!, as well as in numerous concert engagements. She loves travelling, and feels lucky to have had the chance to study abroad in Milan, Italy, as well as travel to China to perform the role of Zita in Gianni Schicchi. This past summer, Shani took part in the Texas Music Festival’s intensive voice program, Le Chiavi: The Keys Bel Canto, where she worked with Ruth Ann Swenson, Ted Taylor, and Nova Thomas. Shani looks forward to her debut season on the Moores Opera Center stage, where she will play the roles of the Third Lady in the outreach production of The Magic Flute, Vera Boronel in The Consul, and Velma Predmore in Cold Sassy Tree.

A native of Galveston, Texas, Stacia graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Houston Moores School of Music, receiving her Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance in 2003. Stacia continued to graduate school at Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music where she received her Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance in 2005. Stacia is in her tenth season as a Regular Chorister for the Houston Grand Opera where she also serves as the Treasurer for the American Guild of Music Artists (AGMA) Houston Grand Opera union chapter. She is a lifetime member of Sigma Alpha Iota international women’s music fraternity and currently serves as the Financial Advisor for UH’s Beta Pi chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota.  Stacia frequently serves as a liturgical cantor at various Houston catholic churches including the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart (2003-2009) and St. John Vianney Catholic Church (2009-present). Stacia and her husband, David, have two children, Jack and Madelyn.
