Jeff Braun is an experienced professional administrator who has worked in local government for 30 years, including service as City Manager in three communities. Braun earned a bachelor’s degree in urban planning from the University of Illinois and a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Kansas. He is recognized as a certified planner by the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP), and has also been designated as a Credentialed Manager by the International City/County Management Association (ICMA).
He was appointed Emergency Management Coordinator of Fort Bend County in 2003. During his tenure, Braun has upgraded the County’s emergency management program through a strategy focusing on partnerships, collaboration, capabilities, and technology upgrades. He was named the “2006 Emergency Manager of the Year” by the Emergency Management Association of Texas as a result of his efforts to build programs that increase crisis preparedness in all eighteen jurisdictions of Fort Bend County through projects such as the formation of a Countywide PIO Network, the development of a Countywide Debris Management Plan, deployment of two regional hazardous material response teams, and construction of a state-of-the-art EOC.
In 2008, Braun received accreditation as a Certified Emergency Manager by the International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM). In 2012, he was a runner-up for the Public Official of the Year Award-Houston Metropolitan Area, awarded by the University Of Houston Masters Of Public Administration Program. In 2013, Braun achieved the Certified Texas Emergency Manager (TEM) designation.
He holds memberships in several professional organizations, including serving on the Board of Directors of the Emergency Management Association of Texas. He serves as Chair of the Regional Collaboration Committee of the Houston Urban Area Security Initiative Working Group; as one of four members of the UASI Houston Urban Area Executive Committee; as Vice President of Houston’s Regional Homeland Security Coordinating Committee; and as a board member of the American Association of Independent Radio Operators.
Since 2004, Braun has been associated with the Texas A&M working as adjunct faculty for the National Emergency Response and Rescue Training Center. As an adjunct instructor at the University of Houston, Braun has taught a graduate level course in emergency management since 2010.
