General Requirements

Admission to the MPA program at the University of Houston requires an undergraduate degree* from an accredited college or university with a 3.0 (B) OR BETTER GRADE POINT AVERAGE IN THE LAST 60 HOURS of course work. The Graduate Recode Exam (GRE) test scores should be sent directly from Educational Testing Services (ETS) to the University of Houston Office of Admissions (GRE code R6870). Your application will not be processed without test scores.

*An applicant (domestic or international) has to be awarded his or her undergraduate degree by the end of the prior Spring semester for Fall application.

  • $75 application fee for both domestic and international applicants

How to apply

The University of Houston Graduate School Application procedure is ALL ONLINE.  The UH Graduate School uses CollegeNET for your application process. Please visit the website to start the online application process (How to Apply the UH graduate programs). Select the semester to apply by clicking the link. The page provides the basic application instructions to apply the UH graduate program. At the bottom of the page, there is a button to enter CollegeNET system: to create a CollegeNET account, to submit an application, and to access post-submission functionality.

The following materials will be needed to complete the online application for the UH MPA program

 

 MPA specific admission requirements: 

  • A statement of purpose for pursuing an MPA degree
  • Three letters of reference (there is no specific form)
  • An official transcript from each university attended
  • A completed application form
  • Official score report from the Graduate Record Exam (GRE)*

*The GRE score must be sent directly from Educational Testing Service (ETS) to the University of Houston (UH Code for the GRE is R6870). GRE Scores older than 5 years will not be accepted

Three letters of recommendation

Letters of recommendation are gathered electronically. You will be asked to provide email addresses of your references while you are filling out online application. After you submit online application, the University of Houston will send the selected references an email providing the log in instructions for myUH Self Service Center to upload a letter of recommendation.
