CPT Braswell was born in Smithfield, North Carolina. Upon graduating from Appalachian State University, he enlisted in the Army in May 1999 as a 31U (Signal Support Systems Specialist). CPT Braswell received his commission in November 2000 from the Officer Candidate School, Ft Benning, GA.

During his career, he has served as a Platoon Leader, Executive Officer, G3 Air staff Officer, and Company Commander. He assignments included 31st Air Defense Artillery Brigade and the 1st Infantry Division (Big Red One). He has served in several stateside locations including Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas. His overseas assignments include Afghanistan, Iraq, and Kuwait.

CPT Braswell’s awards and decorations include two Bronze Stars, the Meritorious Service Medal, three Army Commendation Medals, four Army Achievement Medals, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign medal with one bronze campaign star, the Iraq Campaign Medal with two bronze campaign stars, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Ribbon 3rd award, and the NATO Medal.
