Excellence in Jewish Studies Award

Joseph Godwin is the 2018-19 recipient of the Excellence in Jewish Studies Award. Mr. Godwin has been an exemplary student in Jewish Studies courses. His contributions to class discussions are always well-considered and valuable, and his written work is impressively researched and stylishly written. He also stands out for his enthusiastic participation in class projects.

In spring 2018, Mr. Godwin presented a research paper at the inaugural Texas Jewish Studies Research Triangle's Undergraduate Conference. His paper, "Scholarship on Cyrus the Great and the Restoration," analyzed conflicting biblical accounts of Cyrus the Great, a complicated topic, indeed. The presentation was very well received, and he admirably fielded questions from specialists in the field.

Joseph Godwin represents the ideal University of Houston Jewish Studies student: engaged, scholarly, thoughtful, and committed to the discipline.
