Chiaki Johnson joins the Department of Modern and Classical Languages in Fall of 2017. She is a Japanese native who was born and raised in Japan. She completed her M.A. in Applied Linguistics with a focus on foreign language pedagogy at Georgia State University. She received her B.A. in Foreign Language Education focused on ESL/EFL from Ibaraki University, Japan.
Mrs. Johnson teaches beginning and intermediate Japanese at University of Houston. Prior to teaching at UH, she has taught Japanese at Georgia State University and Texas A&M University. She has also taught Japanese to adults/college students as well as English to K-12 Japanese students. She enjoys interactive classes that create a student-centered-learning environment and focuses on providing encouraging learning experiences.
Mrs. Johnson is interested in foreign language pedagogy as well as language acquisition. She is also focused on exploring effective teaching methods for grammar teaching, and connecting the grammatical knowledge to practical skills in the target language.
