The Classical Studies Program at the University of Houston is very pleased to announce the annual Renaissance Scholarship in Classical Studies, which will be awarded in Fall 2014 for the first time. The scholarship provides $1000 to a student who is currently enrolled in or plans to enroll in Classical Studies, Latin, or Greek courses and is planning to teach (at any level) after college. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and should submit a resumé/CV together with a one to two page essay outlining their planned Classical Studies, Latin, or Greek coursework and their future teaching plans, and stating how they would incorporate knowledge of Classical antiquity into their teaching. Deadline for applications is October 10, and they should be emailed to email@example.com.
Winners will be selected by a faculty-led committee on the basis of the submitted essay and overall academic achievement. Please note that you do not have to be a Classical Studies minor or major to receive this scholarship, nor do you have to plan to teach Classics. You must simply be willing to to incorporate knowledge of Classical Studies/Latin/Greek into your teaching, whatever the field.
