However, you first must be separately admitted into the Master of Education in Physical Education degree in the Department of Health and Human Performance and then apply to the certification program. There is a separate application process for applying to the Master of Education in Physical Education degree program. Being admitted into the Master of Education in Physical Education degree program does not automatically mean that you are simultaneously admitted into the Teacher Certification Program. These are two separate programs, each with different requirements.
Depending on the coursework already taken as part of an undergraduate degree or different graduate degree, you may need to take additional coursework in person at UH as well as a supervised student teaching experience in Texas in order to comply with the rules and regulations of being certified in the state of Texas. These courses are termed deficiency courses. These deficiency courses may also count as electives toward your Master of Education in Physical Education degree from UH, if the courses are taken at the graduate level.
