Kevin Prufer
Kevin Prufer is the author of four books of poetry and the editor of four anthologies. He is Editor at Large at Pleiades: A Journal of New Writing, an international magazine of poetry, fiction, essays, and reviews; and since 1997 he has served as co-director of the Pleiades Press, a small press focusing on modern and contemporary American poetry.
Among Prufer's awards and honors are three Pushcart prizes, two Best American Poetry selections, numerous awards from the Poetry Society of America, the Prairie Schooner/Strousse Award, the William Rockhill Nelson Award, and fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Lannan Foundation.
Before coming to the University of Houston he taught at the University of Central Missouri and previously served two years as Vice President/ Secretary of the National Book Critics Circle. Prufer continues to be an Associate Editor of American Book Review.
Born in 1969 in Cleveland, Ohio, Kevin Prufer received his undergraduate degree from the College of Letters at Wesleyan University. He has graduate degrees from Hollins University and Washington University.
