One-Year and Two-Year Plans

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University of Houston offers a one-year and a two-year plan for its Post Bachelor's Program. Please click here for the course sequence for each plan, listed by year of entry to the Post Bachelor's Program.

The Post Bachelors Program begins in the fall semester only.

Applications for the Post Bachelor’s Program will be accepted from September 1 until January 7 for consideration for admission for the following fall. Once all the applications are collected (postmarked between September 1 and January 7), the admissions committee will begin their review for admittance to the Post Bachelor’s Program of the next academic year (fall).

A minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.8 is required to be considered for admission.

Required Background Courses

American Speech-Language-Hearing Association Requirements:

  • Biological Science (e.g., biology, human anatomy)
  • Physical Science (e.g., physics, chemistry)
  • Social Science (e.g., psychology, sociology, anthropology)
  • Statistics

Standard. IV‐A: The applicant must have demonstrated knowledge of the biological sciences, physical sciences, statistics, and the social/behavioral sciences.

 Implementation:

Acceptable courses in biological sciences should emphasize a content area related to human or animal sciences (e.g., biology, human anatomy and physiology, neuroanatomy and neurophysiology, human genetics, veterinary science). Acceptable courses in physical sciences should include physics or chemistry. Acceptable courses in social/behavioral sciences should include psychology, sociology, anthropology, or public health. Research methodology courses in communication sciences and disorders (CSD) may not be used to satisfy the statistics requirement. Courses in biological and physical sciences specifically related to communication sciences and disorders (CSD) may not be applied for certification purposes to this category unless the course fulfills a university requirement in one of these areas.

Course Sequence

You may complete the program in one or two years. You do not receive a second Bachelor’s degree by completing the Post Bachelor’s program.

The Post Bachelor’s program begins in the fall only. You will not end your program more quickly by beginning in the spring. The courses are very tightly sequenced, with all the fall courses being pre-requisites for the spring courses.

Progress throughout the Post Bachelor’s program is carefully monitored. If you would not meet the minimum requirements for consideration for the graduate program, you will not be allowed to continue in the Post Bachelor’s program.

Course sequence for Post Bachelor's students following one-year plan entering in:

Your GPA for your last 60 hours, including the Fall semester, must be 3.0 or better to continue in the program. 

Course sequence for Post Bachelor students following two-year plan entering in:

Your GPA must be 3.0 or better at the following points in your program:

  • Last 41 hours, including Fall semester
  • Last 50 hours, including Fall and Spring semesters
  • Last 60 hours, including all 3 PB semesters
