Dr. Monique T. Mills is an associate professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders. She holds a B.S. in speech and hearing from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and an M.A. in speech and hearing science from The Ohio State University. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She is a licensed speech-language pathologist. Her research program examines the cognitive, social, and linguistic resources that school-age African American children draw upon to narrate and tell stories.

New Clinic Director
Jane Tragesser joined UHComD as Clinic Director. She received her Master’s degree from UHComD in 2008, after completing her undergraduate degree here in 2005. She spent 10 years as an SLP in Humble Independent School District. Jane never really left UH, as she served as the President of the ComD Alumni Network and both member and later Board Chair of the UHComD Community Advisory Board.

Travel Grant for Teresa Proctor
Congratulations to Teresa Proctor, one of only 2 recipients of the travel grant to the 2019 National Spasmodic Dysphonia Association meeting! Teresa is a second-year graduate student in our department. She is a classically trained singer, a musical artist for the Houston Grand Opera and a staunch advocate for comunity outreach in voice.
Mayor's Back to School Fest 2018
Undergraduate COMD students, graduate speech-language pathology students, and a department alumna joined together to participate in the 8th Annual “Mayor’s Back 2 School Fest” hosted at the University of Houston. The Mayor’s Back to School Fest provides Houston area students with some of the tools they need to start the school year off right. Backpacks, uniforms, immunizations, and basic school supplies are all generously underwritten and donated by a multitude of corporations in the Houston community.
