Dr. Hinojos' work focuses on how language facilitates the reproduction of identity through stand-up comedy and performance art. Her research examines the intersections of language, media and politics through race and humor.

Focusing on gender, globalization and care labor, Dr. Lugo's research addresses the impact of "illegality" on Mexican immigrant women's everyday experiences and the ways their religious practice responds to their life circumstances

The Visiting Scholars Program is designed to generate research about the Mexican and greater Latino community and attract scholars who may be interested in assuming a tenured or tenure track position at the University of Houston once their residency is completed. Research on Houston, the state of Texas and the southwest is given priority consideration.
