Students can take the 3 credit hour course ILAS 2350 “Introduc5 on to Liberal Studies”, a learning how to learn course, a hybrid course with seminars interspersed between cultural and sightseeing ac5 vi5 es. The online por5 on of the class students will complete from their homes in December before the trip. Students from any department, college or university can par5 cipate.

Black in Latin America: Brazil, A Racial Paradise?
In 2010 Henry Louis Gates began an exploration of the legacies of slavery in Latin America. Latin America and the Caribbean have the largest concentration of people with African ancestry outside of Africa, in some countries up to 70%. Brazil is one of the countries investigated by Prof. Gates, a country that often describes itself as a “racial paradise,” with a culture shaped by both Africans and the Portuguese as shown in this film.
