Study Trip Course:
GIS 3300: Interdisciplinary India: Study Abroad
This course begins on the first day of Winter Term, December 19, 2015, with several video lectures and assignments that introduce students to the history and cultures of India. The group departs for India soon after December 25, 2015, from Houston, and returns to Houston before January 17, 2016. We will visit a number of cities and sites (Delhi, Varanasi, Sarnath, Allahabad, Khajuraho, Orchha, Agra, Fatehpur Sikri, Jaipur, Amritsar, Bangalore) where we will study the social, cultural, and historical wonders of this amazing civilization.
The cost is approximately $3200, which includes round-trip airfare, all accommodations (double occupancy), meals, and programming in India.
Substantial scholarships are available on a competitive basis, with preference given to:
- India Studies minors
- Students who have taken at least one course in India Studies
- Students who will take an India Studies course before going to India
Application to the Program:
- Proof of good academic standing
- A personal statement describing your interest and future goals; if you are applying for India Studies Scholarship help, please include a statement about your financial need
- Two recommendation letters from a faculty member with whom you’ve studied
PAYMENT: Once you have been accepted into the Study Abroad program, please go to the Anthony Travel website here, where you will reserve your place, and pay for the trip.

India Studies Scholarships: Scholarships from the India Studies Program and from the UH Office of Learning Abroad are available, depending on academic standing and eligibility.
University of Houston Study Abroad Scholarship (IEFS): Deadline: September 11, 2015
Some funding is automatically available to UH students studying abroad. The amount varies, but everyone should apply. Go to www.uh.edu/studyabroad, select Scholarships, and then IEFS Online Application. Submit the application online, print and sign it, then go to the Office of Study Abroad, 501 E. Cullen building. You will need 2 sealed letters of reference from UH faculty or staff, one sealed official transcript, a statement of between 800 and 1,000 words explaining why you want to study abroad, and a flier from the India Studies Study Abroad Program.
The UH Study Abroad Office charges $50 to see to your international student card and additional paperwork required by the University.
