Captain Merrideth Tyler Akers is Assistant Professor of Air Force Sciences, Air Force ROTC Detachment 003, University of Houston. He is responsible for recruiting and preparing officer candidates for Air Force commissioning through a comprehensive college program. Detachment 003 is composed of over 100 cadets from 17 colleges and universities in the Houston, Texas area.

Captain Akers entered the Air Force in May of 1997, and has been privileged to serve as an enlisted Airman, NCO, and now a commissioned officer.  His career has spanned three different career fields, including TACP, Information Management, and Civil Engineering, and has deployed in all three. As an officer, Captain Akers has deployed to Balad, Iraq as the J7 for the Combined Joint Special Operations Air Detachment and most recently to Herat Province, Afghanistan, where he served as Base Defense Operations Center (BDOC) OIC at Camp Stone.
