The 2019 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Celebration is an opportunity for the University of Houston community to celebrate and reflect on the legacy and life of civil rights leader Dr. King. We gather during this time to memorialize the work and accomplishments of one of the most prominent African American leaders in modern history.
The MLK Celebration Committee composed of UH students, faculty and staff organized and planned several events that will take place January 18 – January 20. All events are free and open to the public.

Each year, the MLK Commemorative Celebration brings speakers to our campus to provide remarks that reflect the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther, King Jr and aspects of social justice. The 2019 MLK Commemorative Celebration will featuring poet, activist, and educator Nikki Giovanni. The program is an opportunity for the University of Houston community to celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther, King Jr.
This event is free, seating is on a first-come first-serve basis.
