Vietnamese Tutorials

Is your Vietnamese a little rusty? Wanna learn how to read and write in Vietnamese? Come on out! Vietnamese lessons are still going on every Wednesday at 7pm at the UC Underground.

English Tutorials

Help teach English to our fellow brothers and sisters who just moved here from Vietnam. The Research & Development Institute (RDI) is offering English tutoring. You don't have to know Vietnamese but English is a must! Classes are Monday through Friday. For a schedule, drop by the VSA carrel.

Intramurals!!

There are several intramural events coming up. Tired of talking all that smack and getting no where? Wanna prove who the real man (or woman) on the court is? If this sounds like you, then vent that fustration towards VSA's cause!! yeah! Come sign up for the sport you think you own and see what the real competition is like.

Just another month until Turkey Day! Gotta give thanks where thanks is due. Thank you, Paul, for your all your efforts. That Member of the Month you always dreamed of having will finally be yours. Okay, back to reality. Here's the schedule for November. Looks like it's gonna be busy, so we need all members to come out to help and get into the spirit!!

General Meeting!!
Date: Thursday, Nov. 20 at 2:30 in the Atlantic Room.
T-shirts have arrived for all paid members. Remember, dues are $15/year (T-shirt included).

Thanksgiving Volunteer Project
On Thanksgiving Day at a Church of Community Center. To be announced.

College Academic Bowl: The Varsity Sport of the Mind.
Date: Saturday, Nov. 22.

Thanksgiving Potluck Dinner
Date: Tuesday, Nov. 25. at the Mediterranian Room (Old LaFitte Rm) from 6pm-9pm.
Please respond ASAP with what you're going to bring.
Also, start bringing non-perishable goods for the Thanksgiving Volunteering Project.

VSA @ the Movies!
Date: Friday, Nov. 28, at Tinseltown at the intersection of Richmond Ave. and Beltway 8.
It's gonna be an all day affair with dinner afterwards.

December

Seasons Greetings from all of us here in VSA. Here is what's in store for the following months:

VCSO Christmas Party
Date: Friday, Dec. 19. VCSO is throwing a Christmas Party at the Newman from 7pm to ??? They are also doing the Secret Santa Gift Exchange. If any members are interested in obtaining a secret partner, please contact VCSO at Newman.

Second Annual Turkey Drive
Date: Sunday, Dec. 21. VSA-UH, VSA-HBU, and AVSA-RICE are participating in the Second Annual Turkey Drive starting at 10am. Donations from various businesses around Houston are being collected right now.
If any members are interested in helping to solicit donations, please contact Anthony. VSA is responsible for obtaining clothes for this drive, so if you have any old, extra, spare, new, used, or recycled clothes, please bring them to the CEO office in the underground by this Friday.
VSA would like to encourage all members to attend and help us sort out the clothes and food. Lunch and dinner will be provided for all helpers (how bout that for incentive!). This Turkey Drive is going to be located at the TIDO Square across from Que Huong Supermarket on Milam. More info or directions will be available at the carrel or contact Anthony.

VSA Picnic
Date: Tuesday, Dec. 23. VSA is throwing a picnic for all of its members and friends. The location is at Memorial Park (exit Woodway) at 1pm. Anyone needing directions can report to the UC loop at 12pm and maybe we can all carpool. VSA will provide the food and entertainment, all you have to do is show up!
If the weather permits, show your VSA pride by wearing the T-shirts. And if the weather doesn't permit, wear them anyways! This is going to be the last event for the Fall Semester, so everyone must show up.

Spring 1998
The Spring semester starts on Tuesday, Jan. 20.

Modern Talent Show
Date: Wednesday, Jan. 28. Lambda Phi Sigma is hosting a Modern Talent Show, cleverly titled GenerAsian X. Members of VSA are allowed to showcase his/her talents in groups of at least four individuals. The event will be judged by a panel of advisors as well as crowd applause. Be sure to bring our your friends to root us on.
Ideas for the talent show will be accepted form now until the first week of Spring. E-mail Anthony with your proposal. VSA will cover the twenty dollar entry fee. This event is a means for VSA, as well as the other Asian Organizations, to recruit new members for the Spring. This Talent show will kick off VSA's Big Annual TET Celebration.

TET Celebration
Date: Thursday, Jan. 29. Events for the celebration are currently being ironed out by the officers. So far, there will be a funny skit, lion dance, and martial arts exhibition. Suggestions for TET are welcome, so e-mail Anthony with your proposal ASAP.

Spring Fasion Show
Date: February 27, 1998. Models are needed to represent VSA. Please apply by emailing Anthony.
