In April 2013, SUNNY FUTURES Healthy Start will host its 7th Annual Infant Mortality Summit (supported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) entitled Action Before Conception: ABCs to Women’s Health Conference in recognition of National Minority Health Month. The goal of this two-day conference is to promote preconception care and health among women of child-bearing age to reduce the risk for birth defects and adverse birth outcomes; particularly among non-pregnant women between the ages of 18-25.Information tailored for a college audience will be hosted on Day 1 of the conference.

Summit Day 1: College Student Preconception Health Summit in collaboration with University of Houston Graduate College of Social Work This prevention-focused event will address reproductive health, substance abuse, nutrition weight, chronic disease, mental health and family history of birth defects or heritable conditions that may impact pregnancy outcomes and healthy behaviors over the course of a lifetime among college students.

Living Archives: Leaping Into the Future - The History of Contemporary Dance in Houston (Lunch included)

Join Blaffer and artist Ana Prvacki to make a participatory social artwork( Over the course of two days)

  • April 2nd 1:00pm- 2:30pm In Fine Arts rm. 110 - a general overview of Prvacki’s work and introduction to The Greeting Committee. 
  • April 3rd 10:00am- 11:30 am: In the Blaffer lounge- a follow-up workshop to train participants who are interested and available to serve slatko during the Feast exhibition September 6 – December 7 

In Ana Prvacki’s The Greeting Committee, UH faculty, staff and students will welcome Blaffer visitors with a spoonful of Serbian slatko, a sweet strawberry preserve served to guests as a traditional gesture of hospitality. The work will be part of the exhibition Feast: Radical Hospitality in Contemporary Art, on view at Blaffer from opening night on Friday, September 6 through December 7.

If you would like to participate you need to attend both workshops. No RSVP required.
