The UH Weeks of Welcome was established to promote and inform the UH community about the multitude of events that take place during the first two weeks of the fall semester. This tradition will continue to provide information, connect new and returning UH students to student organizations, departments, and resources, through the promotion of events and programs on a centralized web-calendar at www.uh.edu/wow.
The “UH Weeks of Welcome” online calendar features on-campus events that took place on Thursday, August 22nd through Friday, September 6th

The First Lecture exposes students to leaders with a national voice in order to motivate and challenge them to set the bar for expectations high -- and then to exceed those expectations. The 2013 College of Education First Lecture features keynote speaker Bonnie Dunbar. Retired NASA astronaut and leader of the new University of Houston STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Center, Dr. Dunbar was a NASA mission specialist astronaut and is a veteran of five space flights. She logged more than 50 days in space and inspires young people everywhere she goes. She is committed to improving STEM education and increasing underrepresented student participation and success. Her legacy is a testament to how STEM can impact education at all levels and how our future educators can inspire their students.
After the lecture, join our party to launch the new year with icy refreshments, photo opportunities, and out-of-this-world festivities.
