"Perspective and the Past and Future of the Oil and Gas Industry" Things move slowly in the oil business where it takes 20-30 years between invention and implementation. There are many reasons for this, all related to the slowness of the depletion of reservoirs. This presentation attempts to give a perspective to the past 30+ years in the “awl bidness” from an academic perspective. It reviews popular conceptions about producing hydrocarbons, the cyclic nature of the industry, and gives a few examples of paradigm shifts.
