Artist Talk: Ximena Cuevas

The UH Photography and Digital Media program will present an artist talk by internationally lauded experimental filmmaker and performance video artist Ximena Cuevas. She will be presenting her work at UH in conjunction with a screening of her work at Aurora Picture Show, in Mirrorings. She will talk about her current and past video work and its connection to politics around gender and identity in both Mexico and the US.

About the Artist
Ximena Cuevas is a Mexican video performance artist, whose works explore the social and gender issues facing lesbians in Mexico. She is one of the first video artists in Mexico that was legitimized by cultural institutions. Cuevas's videos and films have screened at Sundance, New York's Museum of Modern Art and the Guggenheim Museum. Her films have been shown in festivals such as the New York Film Festival, and the touring film series, Mexperimental Cinema. Among her noted works is a 1993 video clip entitled Corazon Sangrante. Her works has also being shown in art institutions such as Berkeley Art Museum, Contemporary Art Museum of San Diego and Museo Universitario de Arte Contemporaneo de la Ciudad de Mexico.
