Each year, the Student Housing and Residential Life Opening Committee works to make the move-in process an easy and memorable experience for students and their families. Thanks to the help of our staff, volunteers, and sponsors, the move-in event gets better and better each year, and residents receive a warm welcome from their UH family.

Start the school year off right with a motivational lecture by nationally recognized civil rights and social justice advocate Lateefah Simon. A former high school dropout and teen mom, Simon became the youngest woman to win a MacArthur Genius? Grant for her work with a California nonprofit dedicated to helping young girls on the streets and in the criminal justice system. She now serves as president of the Oakland-based Akonadi Foundation, which provides grants and other advocacy in support of racial justice. She has driven rave reviews for her presentations at other universities. Sponsored by the UH College of Education, the seventh-annual First Lecture event is designed to inspire students to build community and dream big. No cost to attend.
