The BSGS organizes and hosts the following events that promote the social and intellectual enhancement of the graduate students of the Department of Biology and Biochemistry at the University of Houston.
Activities of BSGS
Graduate Lounge
BSGS houses the graduate lounge, room 214 in Science and Research Building 2. It is a place where students, faculty and staff can have lunch, utilizing the comfortable chairs, tables, couches and the television provided. This room also has provisions for snacks and beverages. The code to the room can be requested with any BSGS officer.
Volleyball
Our weekly get-together for Volleyball on Fridays at 5:00-6:00pm outside Science and Research Building 2 next to Science and Research Building 1. Every Friday when it is not cold and rainy.
Soccer
In the past BSGS had a departmental soccer team. The team was comprised of faculty, staff and students representing the Department of Biology and Biochemistry. If we find enough people a new team can be formed. Send an email to bsgs@uh.edu if you are interested!
Movie Night
From time to time BSGS organizes screening of movies.
Mentor Luncheon
There is a Spring and a Fall lunch which we host in honor of those new graduate students that have decided to join us. It is an event where we try to get together to know each other, the new and the old and try to make them feel at home.
Student Library
In room 261 you can find copies of Nature, Cell, Science, PNAS and more from before the age of PDF. There are also two desks in the room, which provides a quite space for reading or writing. Keys to this room can be requested by any graduate students using the key form available in the mail room.
Meeting
Our meetings are hold when needed. This is the public forum where every graduate student has a say in what he or she thinks is needed and can put forth views towards anything and everything that the BSGS stands for, namely graduate students.
BSGS Seminar Speaker
Every year BSGS invites a speaker to give a seminar.
