UH Faculty Lecture at NanoHealth Alliance Event

At the Alliance for NanoHealth Workshop held May 14, 2004 at the Texas Heart Institute, three University of Houston faculty members made presentations and Arthur Vailas, UH vice president of research, served as moderator for one of the event’s three sessions.

UH Presentations:

  • Real-time DNA Sequencing – Susan H. Hardin, Department of Biology and Biochemistry
  • Pico-Array Synthesis – Xiaolian Gao, Department of Chemistry
  • Nucleation Mechanisms of Sickle Cell Hemoglobin – Peter Vekilov, Department of Chemical Engineering

The Alliance for NanoHealth is a collaborative research endeavor aimed soley at bridging the gaps between medicine, physical science, public policy and nanotechnology. Its founding members are the University of Houston, Baylor College of Medicine, University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center and Rice University.

The purpose of the workshop was to introduce clinicians, research faculty and students to the nanohealth paradigm, to present current nanotechnology research initiatives among the alliance institutions and to promote collaborative interaction between physical scientists and medical researchers.
