Spring 2017 Candidates
Apply via your myUH account by February 24 for a nonrefundable fee of $25 per degree.
Apply between February 25–March 24 for a nonrefundable fee of $50 per degree.
Summer 2017 Candidates
If you wish to participate in the Spring Commencement and Convocation, you must submit a General Petition to the Student Services Office by February 24, 2017 AND apply via your myUH account for a nonrefundable fee of $25 per degree by April 7, 2017 (the application will be available beginning March 31st).
Graduates from the full academic year (Fall 2016, Spring 2017, and Summer 2017 graduates) are invited to participate in the annual University Commencement and the College of Architecture and Design Convocation in May 2017.
Fall 2016 graduates will receive information on how to obtain complimentary tickets for themselves and their families. They will be recognized as UH’s newest alumni at the University Commencement ceremony.
Spring 2017 candidates should apply for graduation by the regular deadline of February 24 (late deadline March 24) and be approved to graduate by their Colleges.
Summer 2017 candidates must submit a General Petition by February 24, 2017 and also apply for Summer graduation by an early deadline of April 7, 2017 in order to be considered for participation in the May University Commencement (the Summer graduation application opens March 31). Applicants will be “pre-reviewed” by their College to determine whether all remaining coursework and requirements for graduation can reasonably be completed during the summer semester. Note that this is a pre-review process for the purpose of approval to participate in the University Commencement only; formal graduation review will still occur in the final graduating semester. Students planning to graduate in summer and interested in participating in Spring Commencement are encouraged to contact their advisors to confirm they are on a path to summer completion. A degree is conferred once final degree requirements are satisfied, rather than by participating in a commencement ceremony.

Gown distribution will occur at the UH Barnes & Noble during normal store hours beginning April 17, 2017.
*Regalia must be worn in order to walk in both ceremonies.
Latin Honors Cords
Students graduating with Latin Honors do not purchase honor cords. Honor cords will be presented to graduates during the College of Architecture and Design Convocation. If you are planning on participating only in the University of Houston Commencement, you may pick up your honor cords from the Student Services Office (dates tbd).
*Latin Honors presented and announced during the ceremonies is an estimate and not official. Official honors will be designated at the time of graduation certification.
Undergraduates who entered UH prior to Fall 2010
- Last 66 credit hours will be calculated toward Latin Honors
- Summa Cum Laude: 3.75-4.00 GPA
- Magna Cum Laude: 3.50-3.74 GPA
- Cum Laude: 3.25-3.49 GPA
Undergraduates who entered UH Fall 2010 or later
- Last 54 credit hours will be calculated toward Latin Honors
- Summa Cum Laude: 3.90-4.00 GPA
- Magna Cum Laude: 3.70-3.89 GPA
- Cum Ladue: 3.50-3.69 GPA

I'm graduating in the Summer. Can I participate in the ceremonies?
Yes! You must first submit a General Petition by February 24, 2017 and then apply for graduation through your myUH account by April 7, 2017 in order to participate in the ceremonies (the application will be available March 31st). If you submit your General Petition as well as apply for graduation through your myUH account by the designated date, your name will be printed in the Commencement and Convocation programs.
Will my name be listed in the Commencement and Convocation programs?
If you officially applied for graduation through your myUH account by the designated deadlines, your name will be printed in the Commencement and Convocation programs.
Is it mandatory to participate in the Commencement and/or Convocation?
We encourage all students to celebrate their hard-earned degrees at Commencement and Convocation; however, both events are optional.
Will we be notified of the awards we receive before Convocation?
Students will not be notified prior to Convocation of the awards they receive.
Do I have to get tickets for Commencement and Convocation for my family and friends?
Yes. Students must reserve tickets for their guests.
No. However, since seating is limited and fills quickly, encourage your guests to arrive early. We will have seating available in the atrium, along the railings on the second and third floors, as well as in the Theater (room 150) with a live broadcast of the event.
*Participation in the University of Houston Commencement and/or the College of Architecture and Design Convocation is ceremonial only. Degrees will be reviewed and conferred the weeks following graduation. Confirmed Spring graduates will receive their diplomas approximately 6-8 weeks following the May graduation ceremonies. Confirmed Summer graduates will receive their diplomas approximately 6-8 weeks following the close of the Summer term.
