CENTER FOR ANXIETY & DEPRESSIVE DISORDERS IN YOUTH

Assessment and Treatment

The Center for Anxiety and Depressive Disorders in Youth (CADDY) offers low-cost cognitive-behavioral therapy to the general public. In conjunction with the Anxiety Disorder Clinic (ADC), we offer services for all ages.

Treatment Process:

Treatment typically lasts for 12-16 weeks, although some people may require more of less time to overcome their anxiety problems. Treatment sessions are usually weekly and last one (if individual) or two (if group) hours. Currently, we mainly provide group-based treatment, although possibilities for individual treatment or outside referrals are available. Daytime and evening hours are available. All treatments are conducted either by Dr. Amie Grills-Taquechel, a licensed clinical psychologist in the state of Texas, or the clinical staff of CADDY. All sessions are supervised by Dr. Grills-Taquechel.

Medication:

CADDY does not employ physicians and therefore does not prescribe medications. Per request of our clients, we will gladly speak with your child's physician or psychiatrist about coordinating services or make appropriate referrals as necessary.

Treatment Options:

If you call to request treatment at either CADDY or the ADC, several things will happen:

  1. Your contact information will be given to one of our therapists, who will contact you as soon as possible to schedule an assessment meeting.
  2. The assessment meeting is designed to better understand your child's anxiety concerns and how it is affecting his/her life and your family, as well as to make certain that our services would be helpful for your family. The assessments are:
    • Free
    • Required before treatment can begin
    • Usually takes 2 hours - either or both parents as well as the child experiencing anxiety need to attend
    • You will complete several questionnaires /interview questions
  1. If our services appear appropriate, treatment will begin shortly after the assessment is completed.

Treatment Costs:

  • $20 per session (general public)
  • $10 per session (University of Houston students)

***Currently, CADDY is focused on the treatment of early childhood anxiety. We are offering state-of-the-art, cognitive-behavioral group therapy for parents of young anxious children (aged 3-8). This group treatment will be conducted for 12 consecutive weeks for 2 hours/week. Each week the group will focus on different parenting procedures such as play, praise/rewarding, ignoring unwanted behaviors, and time-out. These will be specifically applied to the anxiety experienced by your child in an effort to discourage these behaviors and encourage “brave behaviors”. Treatment costs may be reduced to $10 or less for this treatment!
