Encumbrance Release for Postage, Phone Equipment, Computer Backup
and Long Distance
As before, expenditures to postage (52800),
phone equipment (52803), computer backup
(52804, and long distance (52807) will
automatically release the same amount of
encumbrance from these accounts until the
encumbrance is zero. You can increase or
decrease the encumbrance for these accounts
during the year by submitting an encumbrance
journal entry to General Accounting.

under General Ledger. Encumbrance journals
should not be submitted for other accounts
or for POs, since the encumbrance will not
automatically release when an expenditure is
posted.
