Fire Safety Warning Issued for Samsung Galaxy Note 7

Houston, Sept. 23, 2016 — The University of Houston Fire Marshal's Office is advising students, staff and faculty to return their Samsung Galaxy Note 7 phones where they purchased them for a refund or exchange.

Specific Samsung phones are being recalled due to them catching fire from an apparent problem with the lithium battery. These phones can cause severe burns to people holding them.

The UH Fire Marshal's Office is concerned for the safety of UH staff, students and faculty. Vehicles and buildings are also in danger. Phones that are not plugged in or are in somebody's pocket are also potential risks.
