September is National Preparedness Month: Do You Have a Plan?

UH Community Should be Prepared for Hurricane Season

Houston, Sept. 5, 2017 —September is National Preparedness Month, and the University of Houston's Office of Emergency Management will be sharing preparedness tips each week during September.

Part 1 in the four-part series is discussing making an emergency plan with family and friends. It's important to always take the needed steps to prepare for any emergency and the best way to do that is with a plan. The devastation of Hurricane Harvey shows the importance of having an emergency plan. Follow the steps and resources in the chart to build one today.

A plan should include anything from how to communicate with each other to meeting places if you do lose contact with a loved one, as well as how to evacuate or shelter in an emergency. Always be prepared with a plan. Details on how to make a family emergency plan can be found at the website.
