UHDPS works overtime to keep traffic moving
“Traffic is moving,” “I expected the traffic to be much worse on
campus with all the construction” are just a few comments
overheard by students on campus the first day of classes. With thousands
of vehicles coming to campus and tens of thousands of students
walking in and around campus, the University of Houston needs
back up. That back up happens to be the field personnel of the
University of Houston Department of Public Safety. Every year
before the semester starts, the Police Department pulls together
their mobility plan. This plan aligns staff in specific
locations to assist with the ease of flow in and around campus.
Over 125 individuals are positioned to assist vehicles,
pedestrians and construction on campus. Between traffic control
and vehicle assistance, they are literally working overtime.
Chief Ceaser Moore comments, “it’s a tough hot job and your
police, security, and parking personnel are constantly striving
to ensure that everyone is safe both and in and around the
campus. We are very lucky to have such a dedicated group to
protect us on a daily basis.”
