University of Houston Dining Services welcomes Joel Cecil as the new director of operations.
Cecil joins the team with more than 25 years of experience in the food service industry. He has dabbled in several sectors of the industry and worked with such big names as Compass, Sodexo and Wolfgang Puck Catering Company in Dallas.
“I enjoyed serving as the director of operations for prestigious companies such as the Philadelphia Museum of Art,” he said. “I want to use my knowledge of the business to continue building our food service program and raising our level of service.”
Cecil’s responsibilities as the director of operations will include serving and supporting all food services operations including retail, residential and catering teams. He will also collaborate with UH Dining support teams in human resources, marketing and finance.
“My job is to enhance our customers’ experience, raise the level of expectations and deliver above and beyond the students’ expectation throughout our operations,” he said.
He is looking forward to creating new customer service initiatives and continuing to deliver excellence throughout every program.
“My philosophy is to embrace what makes you excited to get out of bed in the morning,” he said. “In the end, serving others is about gratitude and carrying a spirit of service.”
In his spare time, he enjoys traveling, cycling, trying new restaurants and spending time with his family.
“I love cycling and going for rides on the weekends,” he said. “I’m also a foodie and enjoy experiencing new chef-inspired restaurants.”
