Green Hero - Huong Nguyen

Huong Nguyen is our Green Hero for the month of October. Mr. Nguyen came to America from Vietnam in 1995 and has been working at UH since 1996. He is a hard-working individual who constantly strives to learn more about the world around him. Before coming to America, he had many expectations of how life in the US might offer more opportunities to him and his family. Nothing was easy in the beginning but Mr. Nguyen’s bravery, strong work ethic, and family ties empowered him to be a success in America.

Mr. Nguyen is our hero because he does his job with pride and dignity. He only knows how to work as hard as he can and has never given anything less. Every day he collects and processes cardboard from 7:30 in the morning to 3:30 in the afternoon. At the end of the day, he has collected a full truck load of processed cardboard. Gathering a truck load of processed cardboard each day is a phenomenal amount of work and sometimes he doesn’t stop there. If his work is finished before the day is over, he helps his coworkers with the other recycling around campus. His work is long and hard but he still smiles after thirteen years on the job because he believes in what he does.

Mr. Nguyen not only helps keep UH a beautiful place, but stays informed about the environmental benefits of recycling. While he is proud of making a small difference in the world, he is also a very humble and kind man. Everyone can learn about hard work and the importance of believing their job can make a difference for positive change from the University of Houston’s Green Hero, Huong Nguyen.
