RESPONSE TO CULLEN FIELD CONCERNS

Parking and Transportation Services, working with Campus Recreation, has developed a plan to place a temporary parking lot on one of the intramural fields to ease congestion during construction of the Robertson Stadium Parking Garage.

This plan, developed in coordination with Campus Recreation and Facilities Planning, would utilize only one of the current three fields. In order to minimize the impact of this lot, Parking and Transportation Services will install lighting on an existing field, thereby increasing the usefulness of this field.

Parking and Transportation Services has neither requested, nor intends to build a parking lot over the entire intramural fields. In addition, at the end of the garage construction, Parking and Transportation Services will return the field to its original condition.

Additionally, this temporary lot will be used to help offset spaces lost during Frontier Fiesta. Frontier Fiesta utilizes the economy parking surrounding Robertson Stadium and temporarily takes out of use over 1,000 spaces. Using this field as temporary parking during Frontier Fiesta will both minimize the impact on the campus as well as facilitate the safety and convenience concerns of Frontier Fiesta.

Utilizing this field as a temporary lot will lessen the impact and inconveniences associated with a construction project as large as the stadium garage. When completed this garage will offer parking for over 2,300 vehicles, increasing parking availability in an area of high demand. Parking and Transportation Services is working on a variety of plans and programs designed to provide as many viable options for students, faculty and staff that will be impacted during this project.
