DINING PLAN APPROVED FOR 2011-12

The Board of Regents signed off on the UH Dining Services' proposed plans to continue to bring new and enhanced services to UH students. UH Dining administrators and the Food Services Advisory Committee worked for several months to develop a financial plan based on projected increases in food costs for the upcoming year. In order to ensure a consistently high-level of service and meet the requests and demands of students, faculty and staff, meal plan prices and door prices will see a percentage increase ranging from zero to eight percent in the 2011-12 academic year.

Before it was proposed to the Board of Regents on Feb. 16, the plan was presented in an open forum during Town Hall meetings on Jan. 26 and 27. Students, faculty and staff were invited to attend the meetings and offer feedback on the proposed plan. All residential lifestyle plans will see a $60 increase and commuter block plans will raise $10 for Block 20 and Block 40 and $20 for Block 80. Door prices will go up 50 cents.

During the town hall presentations, UH Dining Services discussed the previous academic year and their hopes for future progress in 2011-12. During the past year, the addition of the Fresh Food Company at Moody Towers was very successful, increasing from an average of 1,400 meals a day sold in 2009-10 to an average of 3,800 meals a day in 2010-11. UH Dining also renovated Pizza Hut and Burger Studio in the UC Satellite and combined the C-store and Smoothie King to enhance customer service at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center. This year also brought Suchic Sushi to campus and the We Heard You comment boards in both dining halls.

In the future, UH Dining Services will continue to boost services with the addition of a West Dining Hall to replace the current OB dining hall projected for completion in 2012. Once the new Robertson Stadium garage is built, students, faculty and staff can look forward to more food options in the retail spaces at the base of the garage.
