Annual Financial Report Goes Green
The University of Houston System
Annual Financial Report for fiscal
year 2008 was reviewed with the
Board of Regents at their February
meeting. The financial statements,
which summarize the results of
financial operations, revenues, and
expenses for the preceding fiscal
year, are submitted to state
oversight agencies each November.
Several of the external
constituencies that rely on the
information in this document include
federal and state regulatory
agencies, sponsored program
grantors, donors, banks and
financial entities, and taxpayers.
The University has established sound
fiscal policies and procedures, and
this report demonstrates that
financial resources have been used
in the most efficient and effective
means possible.
This year’s report provided
contributions towards the
university’s efforts to support a
greener campus and improve
sustainability projects. The report
has been printed on U2:XG paper.
This recycled paper product, which
resulted in no additional printing
costs to the university, is FSC
(Forest Stewardship Council)
certified to have been manufactured
using wood fiber industry criteria
and standards that address economic,
social, and environmental concerns.
The paper is produced by using 30%
post-consumer recovered fiber and by
using Green Power electricity
generated by renewable resources
such as wind power, hydro, and
biogas. Executive Director of
Financial Reporting, David Ellis,
stated that promoting green policies
by incorporating them with mandatory
reporting requirements helps advance
sustainability for all of our
campuses.
Additionally the report provides the
reader with narrative and photo
glimpses of several of the many
outstanding examples of the campus’s
unique landscaped and tree filled
parks and grounds. This attention to
preserving and maintaining our
campus environment provides
unlimited opportunities for students
and staff, alike, to study, gather,
or collaborate. The numerous campus
greenspaces also assist with energy
management and facility
sustainability projects.
