Green Hints - Cook Smart

Consider using smaller appliances to cook food more efficiently. For example, a toaster would save energy as compared to using an oven. Similarly, simmering food can be better accomplished by using a crock pot instead of a pot on a stove top.

Summer time is here, and so is outdoor BBQ. To reduce the release of CO2, consider using propane, gas or electric grills. These grills burn much more efficiently than charcoal or wood, resulting in fewer pollutants. If you do decide to burn charcoal, try to choose a natural lump brand. Petroleum-based lighter fluids release harmful VOCs and are best avoided.
