Today's Business Solutions Workshop

The University of Houston recently hosted a workshop for Today’s Business Solutions, explaining the methods for ordering office products and securing the best deals on these supplies.

Robert Jimenez, President of Today’s Business Solutions, led the presentation, guiding attendees through the company website and ordering process.

At one point, Jimenez demonstrated the Live Online Assistance (or LOLA) feature, which offers a “Call Me Now” option, or live chat. Upon entering his phone number, Jimenez was immediately called by a representative on his cell phone, ready to give him assistance.

Items covered during the workshop included the following:

• How to find the products you need in the TBS online ordering system
• How to find frequently purchased products with the lowest price (“Coog’s Top Picks”)
• How to track deliveries
• Billing procedures
• How to handle returns
• How the Recycled Paper Program can save you money
• Free samples of office products
• Catalog distribution
• Q&A

By choosing “Coog’s Top Picks” from the list when ordering supplies from the Today’s Business Solutions website, customers can be assured that these products will be most cost effective. An orange “C” will appear next to these items, which means that they are on the core contract list.

Jimenez explained that the core contract was a “big deal”, because it involves a competitive bid across the U.S., and the core contract allows for fixed pricing that remains consistent. It can only be revised twice a year.

As an incentive to purchase recycled paper, all departments that purchase at least $100 of recycled paper from Today’s during the six month evaluation period (April 1, 2010 – September 30, 2010) will receive a 5% rebate on their recycled paper purchases. In addition, the top four departments that purchase the most recycled paper will each receive 20,000 HP points to purchase toner and other supplies from Hewlett Packard.

Jimenez explained that the University is six weeks into a program called “Closed Loop Recycling” with Boise Paper, in which the “paper recycled from university offices is sent to the Boise paper plant in Jackson, AL, where it is recycled and re-purchased by the University as recycled paper for use in UH offices. The University is one of a handful of universities across the country participating in Closed Loop Recycling.”
