University Facilities - Key Changes in July 2011

As part of the Student Success Team Administrative Review (S-STAR), auxiliary and campus facility support services are being integrated across campus. Several key initiatives are now preparing to roll out:

University Wide Facilities Services Call Center (FSC) to Open July 5th
The FSC will provide a point of service call center that will increase the level of technical and service support. This will allow for all facilities' needs to be routed through one service center and directly dispatched to the shops as well as extend the current service hours and days of operation.

New Hours of Operation
Monday - Friday 7:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m.
Saturday 7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Sunday 12:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

Building Coordinator Program to begin July 13th & 18th - This program, which will provide for a primary and alternate point of contact in each university facility, will facilitate communications, support facility capital planning and represent user needs within the buildings by creating a forum for discussion and resolution of occupancy problems. Building Coordinators will be called upon to help assist in resolving building issues and after-hours, building-related emergencies and will serve a critical role in helping Plant Operations meet all campus facility and safety needs. For additional information, please visit http://www.uh.edu/plantops/about-us/committees/building-coordinator-program/.

Key Staff Changes – Auxiliary facilities management – Several key management changes were made effective June 2011 which will serve as an interim step toward this integration:

Athletics, Campus Recreation and Residential Life/Student Affairs Facilities – all auxiliary maintenance in these facilities will now report to Henry Anderson, Interim Assistant Director of Facilities Maintenance – Auxiliaries. Mr. Anderson reports to the Department of Facilities Management under the direction of Sameer Kapileshwari, Director of Utilities, Energy and Technical Services.

Custodial Operations (campus wide) – will be managed by Ray Mosley, Interim Custodial Manager for Facilities Management, under the direction of James Ballowe. Mr. Ballowe is being promoted to Interim Director of Facilities Maintenance and will take the overall responsibility on September 1, 2011 for the maintenance and custodial management of kitchen and dining services across campus as well as continue the management of the solid waste, recycling and key control operations. Custodial Operations continues to fall under the direction of Carlos Villarreal, Director of Central Facilities Services.
For questions or further information regarding these initiatives or management changes please contact Melissa Rockwell, Executive Director Facilities Management, at 713-743-8750 or mrockwel@central.uh.edu.

Thank you in advance for your support and commitment to UH and to the stewardship of our facilities in support of our Tier One Mission.
